Stop Idling — It’s the Law!

The No-Idling Law passed by the County of Westchester went into effect in February. It states: “No person shall allow or permit the engine of a motor vehicle to idle for more than 3 consecutive minutes when the motor vehicle is not in motion” (with specific exceptions).

Turning off your engine is one of the easiest things you can do to reduce carbon emissions. Every day, Americans waste 3.8 million gallons of gas by voluntarily idling their cars. Prolonged idling is not good for you or your vehicle, and exhaust is the leading source of toxic car pollution.

TURN OFF YOUR ENGINE when you:

  • pick up your kids at school or another activity
  • wait at the train station or bus stop
  • make a quick stop

Contributions Fund Bins in Parks

New three-source separation receptacles are being installed in parks and fields thanks to the generosity of community groups. Special thanks to these organizations, who have donated to cover the cost of the receptacles:

  • Armonk United Soccer Club
  • Armonk Lions Club
  • Armonk Indoor Sports Center
  • Byram Hills Preschool Association
  • Armonk Cub Scout Den #7.

The receptacles allow for collection of:

cans, bottles & plastic #1-6, paper and waste. Let’s all work to reduce waste and deposit recyclables responsibly in our parks.

Contributions to expand North Castle’s recycling efforts are needed. Anyone wishing to volunteer or make a donation to the North Castle Recycling Program should:
