Department of Public Works
Richard Fon, Appointed Superintendent of Public Works

The North Castle Town Board established a Department of Public Works (DPW) at its November 19, 2008 meeting. Following this action, the Town Board moved to create the position of Superintendent of Public Works to oversee the new department and appointed Building Inspector Richard Fon to fill the position.

The Superintendent of Public Works has supervisory authority, in coordination with the respective Department Heads, over the Building and Engineering, Building Maintenance, Highway, Parks, and Sewer & Water Departments.

The newly created DPW is providing better coordination and efficiency among existing departments, leading to cost savings realized by sharing personnel and equipment. Mr. Fon will oversee the daily activities, budgets and future planning of these departments, resulting in better communication with the Town Board and closer analysis of budgets.

It is estimated that Mr. Fon will spend approximately 50% of his time supervising the Building and Engineering Department and 20% each on the Highway Department and the Sewer & Water Department. The remainder will be divided between the Parks Department and Building Maintenance.

Mr. Fon will continue with his current responsibilities without any additions to staff. He will receive one additional week of vacation and a possible mid-year salary increase if substantial cost savings are realized.
