Recycling Committee NewsBy Co-Chairs April Paresi and Deborah Cerar Zero Waste Day The Town’s fifth Zero Waste Day will be held rain or shine. This bi-annual event has been a great success. Residents can clean out their homes and garages and donate gently used goods to our neighbors in need. Additionally, you can responsibly dispose of electronic waste and scrap metals and shred personal papers. A donation receipt for tax purposes will be provided by Furniture Sharehouse, Community Center of Northern Westchester, Recycle a Bicycle and Adopt a Dog. The following items will be accepted.
Adopt a Bin Program
Our newest bin (number 7) was purchased last month through the donations collected during the 2010 Zero Waste Days. To reach our goal, we still need 15 recycle bins to adequately service North Castle’s green spaces and accommodate proper recycling. The Recycling Committee is now beginning a new cycle of solicitations. If you are a member of a community organization, business, homeowner’s group or an individual, please consider a contribution to this worthy endeavor. A handsome donation plaque attached to the bin will also recognize your generosity. Placing more of these recycling bins in the parks encourages resident recycling, reduces the efforts of the parks staff to collect recyclables and waste and helps to unify and beautify North Castle’s public spaces. 2010 Zero Waste Day Contributions Fund New Recycling Bin The Recycling Committee has purchased a new 3-source recycling bin funded by the donations collected from North Castle residents during the April and October 2010 Zero Waste Days. A plaque commemorating the generosity of local residents reads: Donated by Residents of North Castle, Zero Waste Day 2010. Come by Legion Field (behind Town Hall) and admire the new addition. The Recycling Committee would like to thank you for your continued support Recyclopedia: A Guide to Recycling Practically Everything The North Castle Recycling Committee is extremely pleased to announce the launch of Recyclopedia, an A-Z guide to recycling or reusing many household items. As the Recycling Committee’s page within the Town’s website begins to take on a whole new look, be sure to look for Recyclopedia. The result of hundreds of hours, lead by principal author and committee member, Beth Pollack, this guide aims to assist both the most dedicated recycler and those who are just getting started. Designed to be interactive and informative, Recyclopedia lists over 200 items that can be recycled or reused. The launch is scheduled to coincide with Zero Waste Day on April 30th. Be sure to come take a peak and please give us your feedback. We need your input to ensure Recyclopedia is a useable and useful resource.
