Home Energy Efficiency Programs and Incentives

Energize Northern Westchester is a community based program that promotes home energy efficiency and acts as a local resource to help guide homeowners through the process of making energy upgrades.   It is funded through grants from the Department of Energy (DOE) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).  The program began in January, 2011 with the launch of a pilot program called Energize Bedford, which facilitates the access to energy programs and incentives for Bedford residents. The Energize program will soon be coming to other Westchester communities, including North Castle. In the meantime, free or subsidized home energy audits are available to residents of North Castle, along with low rate financing for home improvements.

Westchester Green Business Challenge

North Castle businesses interested in reducing their carbon footprint should take the Westchester Green Business Challenge, a friendly competition open to all types of businesses and non-profits.  By signing up for this program, companies receive a scorecard along with easy-to-use tools to track their progress.  Participants will be acknowledged for greening their operations and evaluated based on a scorecard that outlines a number of green action steps that can be taken.  Not all actions apply to every business so the goal is to do as many as possible. Any business that submits a scorecard by April 30th will be acknowledged at a Recognition Event to be held on June 15th at the Jacob Burns Media Arts Lab.

2011 Greenest New Yorker Finalist

Sustainable North Castle member Brian Kaminer was picked as one of 10 semi-finalists in this year's I LOVE NY Greenest New Yorker Contest.  Finalists were chosen based on how they exemplify an eco-lifestyle, demonstrating a dedication to living a sustainable lifestyle and a passion for spreading the green word.  The contest is now narrowing down its list of finalists to the Top 3, with the winner becoming the next green ambassador for New York State.
