The Town Board established the Global Warming Task Force and appointed the members Bob Greene, Lisa Friedlander and Jon Mann in September, 2007. The task force plans to address issues and questions about global warming and to work with individuals to find helpful answers.

Mission Statement

"To support, involve and inform our community regarding global warming; to acknowledge and learn from those already taking action; and to coordinate efforts to reduce our ‘carbon footprint' toward improving the health of our planet for future generations."

BECOMING A ‘WASTE WISE’ COMMUNITY

April Waste Wise Month is a collaborative pilot program between H.C. Crittenden Middle School (HCC) and the North Castle Global Warming Task Force (GWTF).

The program and materials were developed by the GWTF and Crittenden Assistant Principal Brodgon, with support from Supervisor Berman, Byram Hills Deputy Superintendent Taylor and the School Board.

Members of the HCC Green Club will be measuring the amount of garbage waste and recyclables produced for each grade level. A graph will be displayed in the HCC dining hall for the collection of data throughout the month.

HCC school families will use a Waste Wise spreadsheet to track household garbage and recycling during the month. The goal will be to reduce garbage/waste overall, and to increase the recycling content within each home's garbage.

The Waste Wise spreadsheet and a tips page detailing ways to reduce waste and increase recycling is going home to every HCC family on March 28th, for use from March 29th - May 3rd.

Results will be analyzed and presented at the Town's Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, May 10th, on Main Street in Armonk.  HCC families who have reported significant progress during the program will be acknowledged and their waste wise methods will be presented so that other families and businesses can learn and follow suit.

The long term goal is to utilize the data as a catalyst for the community to work to reduce individual's, families' and the Town's overall 'carbon footprint.'
