Police - Emergency Service Unit
The Emergency Service Unit of the North Castle Police Department was formed in October 1994 and has been in continuous service ever since.
The Unit Administrator is Lieutenant William Fisher, a 25 year veteran of the Department. The Unit Commanding Officer is Sgt. James Cuffe, a 13 year veteran of the Department. The unit is a specially trained and equipped unit within the Police Department. Comprised of three sergeants and seven police officers who are specially trained in the rescue and treatment of injured or endangered persons. All members of ESU are certified as New York State Emergency Medical Technicians and have additional training in vehicle extrication and the response to, and mediation of, a variety of hazardous conditions that may arise in the community.
ESU's primary objective is the protection of life and property at the scene of any incident to which it responds. The objective is reached through the use of highly specialized equipment utilized by the knowledgeable, specially trained police officers assigned to the unit.
Sgt. Lee Gospodinoff and K-9 Aiko have retired from the Department as of April 29, 2006. For four and a half years they worked together in the apprehension of criminals and the education of the public regarding the role of a Police K-9 Unit. Their dedication and service to our community will be sorely missed. We wish them the best of luck in their retirement!
