Refrigerator

ReuseRecycleDisposal
Currently, there is no reuse option available for this item.

If you make arrangements with SCC to leave the appliance curbside, you must have the Freon removed. You can have the Freon removed by a licensed technician. A list of licensed Freon removal sites is available here. Once the Freon is removed and the label is affixed to the appliance, the appliance is considered scrap metal.

Westchester County accepts hazardous material at the Household Material Reclamation Facility. Go to the website for information on HMRF or call the Westchester County Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425. North Castle residents will be subject to pay a small fee.

The easiest method of removal and safe disposal is to have the old appliance removed and taken away by the appliance store when a new freezer is being installed.

If no other methods of disposal are available to you, call Suburban Carting at 1-800-273-9394 to make arrangements for bulk pickup.

Additional Information

Because they contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are also known as Freon, refrigerators cannot be put out at curbside. Proper disposal is required.
