Supervisor's Update April 2024

As we continue to marvel at the wonders of our planet, this month has been marked by incredible natural events. We experienced a 4.8 earthquake and witnessed a captivating solar eclipse. Thanks to the generosity of the Byram Hills Education Foundation, solar eclipse glasses were provided to all our Byram Hills students and staff. A fantastic solar event was held at Byram Hills High School for everyone to enjoy.

April is a month dedicated to celebrating our Earth, and the Sustainability Committee has organized a Town-Wide Clean-Up Day this Saturday, April 20, from 9 AM to 1 PM. Volunteers can obtain bags, vests, and trash picker sticks from various locations such as Town Hall, North White Plains Community Center, or Banksville Fire Department. For more information, please visit the Town of North Castle website. Let’s unite as a community to make a positive impact together!

Speaking of community initiatives, at one of my visits to the Hergenhan Center, I meet residents who are part of the Knitting Circle. This group of 16 seniors meets weekly to knit and chat, creating dozens of hats for preemie babies at Northern Westchester Hospital. Additionally, they've contributed hats to Phelps Hospital in Tarrytown for cancer patients and recently made lap blankets and hats for veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, New York. The Knitting Circle welcomes new members, whether experienced or novice, every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Donations of yarn for this heartwarming cause are also being collected at the Hergenhan Center.

Looking for weekend activities? The Armonk Players present "Later," a stage reading by Corrine Jacker at the Whippoorwill Theater Library on Friday, April 19th at 8 PM and Sunday, April 21st at 4 PM. Yesterday, myself along with Town Administrator Kevin Hay and Councilmen Saleem Hussain, the school liaison, had the pleasure of meeting the Superintendent of the Valhalla School District and his staff. Superintendent Kevin McLeod took us on a tour of the 4 school buildings and shared the wonderful things happening at the Valhalla schools. This weekend, Friday April 19th and Saturday April 20th at 7:30 PM, the Valhalla Middle School Theatre presents their performance of Beauty and the Beast. The Byram Hills School District is excited to introduce "Light, Learning, and Action," a proposal spanning from 2024 to 2027, aiming to transform the high school library and lecture hall space into a 21st-century learning hub, plus expanding the athletic turf facilities and illuminating the courts and fields at Byram Hills High School. Learn more about this proposal on Tuesday, May 14th, from 6 PM to 8 PM.

With spring in the air, it's time for cleaning and purging. 914Cares is an organization that has recently relocated to Armonk and has joined the Armonk Chamber of Commerce.
